11 years in Atlanta

Day 1

We left on November 11, 2021

Biggest plane we have ever been on 5 seats in the middle and two on each side. Don't ask me the kind. Boeing....?

Incase you wanted to know where we parked

My sisters would send me random pictures of the kids so they will pop up through this post.

We used the public transportation to get around. It's called the Marta. You took two escalators down to the train. This one was so long.

We got to the place we were staying and ran out quick to get something to eat because we were starving. The quickest and closest place was Dairy Queen. We sat outside this mall place and it was crazy how tall everything was around us.

We stayed at an airbnb apartment called peachtree towers. We were on the 18th floor. That night we did a little grocery shopping for breakfast food, unpacked and slept a solid 12 hours :)

Day 2

We went to the Georgia aquarium with Steve's cousin Tim Major and his wife Charisse.

Outside the aquarium, actual part of the coca cola museum were these giant Christmas ornaments.

Sorry pictures are a little out of order and I don't have time to fix them so enjoy the randomness.

After the aquarium we went to Johnny Rockets and had delicious food

That afternoon we went on a segway tour of midtown. This was probably our favorite activity. Not many pictures to represent it but if you ever get a chance to do a segway tour, do it!

That evening we went to the fox theatre for the production of fiddler on the roof. So cool how they make you feel like you are outside. The ceiling is made to look like the sky.

Just for records sake we ate at a place called tin lizzy's that night and had some very yummy nachos.

Day 3

We went to church with the Majors. It was their primary program so it was fun to see Allison (5 year old) be a part of that. They also have a daughter named Stephanie (age 3)

We saw their house, had a picnic, walked around the temple, walked around the historic Oakland cemetery.   

I also have to mention Sunday morning while getting ready we heard church bells playing and it was just so fun! I have videos of things but it's a little crazy to insert a video on this blog. Man it was beautiful though!

Margaret Mitchell is buried here. She is the writer of gone with the wind.

They had quite a few of the mausoleum. I just don't know how I feel about not being buried underground. Thats just how its done in my head so to think there is a body in there is just weird.

We gave the 5 year old our phone and this is some of what we got. She thought it was hilarious to be asked to take pictures!

at some point in our travels we saw a Westrock building. Steve's Dad works for this company.

Our kids were so well taken care of and had a blast. Just for record sake. My parents got covid right before our trip so my sisters, brother, sister-in-laws all saved our tushies and stepped up to watch our kids. So so grateful! Hope we can return the favor.

Day 4

We went to six flags over Georgia. We had a fun time but we might have skipped some rides that we just didn't feel up to. I mention this because I feel like in our "younger" years we would have said "we are riding all the rides". Yeah we rod a lot of rides but our old/wiser selfs skipped some questionable rides.

This coaster you stand up on. That was different and exciting.

Day 5

We went to Truist Park Stadium, home to the 2021 World Series Champion Atlanta Braves! We then just traveled home.

Crazy to think we were so far underground when we went down to the train.

This is a helicopter that was picking things up from the parking lot of the cool church nearby and flying them up to the top. We couldn't really see what they were carrying, but they probably did it on a Saturday so there were fewer people in the building in case something happened.

This is us actually on the field. We were not allowed to even touch the grass. It is some very special grass and stepping on it can kill it. They spend so much money on the grass that they just say only players and ground's crew can walk on it.

This Braves Tomahawk is made from 17,257 Legos.

This is the lineup of the final game of the World Series that they hadn't gotten around to erasing yet.

THE World Series Trophy for 2021! Our tour group was the first to see it after the major sponsors had come the day before. There were about 2500 of them, so they had to wait in line for like 2 hours to see it. We had 12 of us, so we all had plenty of time to look at it behind the glass. There were still fingerprints and smudges on it from the celebration. They hadn't sent it off to be cleaned yet.

Hank Aaron did a lot for this team and baseball in general, so they have a lot about him in the memorial garden and all over the place.

The ball and bat from Hank Aaron's 715 career home run that broke the record at the time. He ended with a total of 755. This bat and ball were gifted to the baseball hall of fame in Hank Aaron's will, however, he stipulated that they had to remain in Atlanta.

The Chop House where you can actually eat during the game if you get there 2 hours early and they request you only stay for an hour.

This is below the Chop House that you can rent for up to 100 people to watch the game from field level in right field.

We never made it to Underground Atlanta, but we took a picture of the sign. It is a sketchy place with some shops.

The line for the parking lot shuttle at 9:30pm. Hope the Salt Lake airport can get their crap together so people don't have to wait in line for an hour for the shuttle.

Such a fun adventure!
