As soon as I got off work on Saturday we packed a lunch/dinner and drove up to Yellowstone. First thing on Steve's list was to drive straight to Old Faithful.
Soon after we got there we found out we had just missed the eruption but they said it was a small one so it should erupt again in an hour or so. We walked around for a while and looked at all the sulfur pots and the gift shops then headed over to get a seat for the eruption.
They predicted it would go off about 5:01 p.m. but we sat there till
about 5:20 before it went off. We sat next to this family that had
this boy, probably 9 or 10, he would ask his parents like every 3 minutes when
it was going to go. It was pretty funny! Old Faithful likes to tease
people because it would do these little water splashes and get us all excited
then die. We began to wonder if we should keep waiting, we were so glad we
did. Good Old Faithful put on a great show for us.
After that we got in the car and drove around a bit and ate lunch. We decided to head back to West Yellowstone and go to the IMAX theater they have.
We got there and the tickets were half off that day so thats always exciting! We saw their movie "Bears". IMAX theaters are cool but they kind of make me sick for the first little bit till I get used to it. We also should have sat further up in the seats, just an fyi :) It was a cool movie and a great break from the sun.
Steve wanted to go check out the "Wolf and Bear discovery center" We only had about 45 min. till it closed so we didn't know if it would be worth it but as soon as Steve heard there were live bears and wolves inside there was no convincing him otherwise. We got in there and skipped all the educational stuff about a discovery center :) and headed right for the live exibits.
It was so funny seeing Steve literally run from exhibit to exhibit because the animals in that exhibit were doing something cool. The bears would be wrestling and then the wolves would start howling. If he has this much energy at 25 i'm a little nervous to see what our little Steve's will be like :)
It turned out to be such a fun day! Sometimes I think those last minute trips are some of the most fun!
